What connects the 'Machynys tunnel' to the creation of the USA? 1066 was the last successful invasion of Britain - true or false? Original documents are better than Wikipedia - yes or no? This talk examines how we study History and explains why many of the assumptions people have about the subject are often wrong. Along the way it examines some widely held beliefs about the histories of Llanelli, Britain and the world and demonstrates why these are actually misleading, and sometimes downright dangerous, myths.

Llanelli Town Council are making a strong protest over what is seen as a dictatorial attitude by the Board without considering the needs of the local Population. We must act before the Hospital is destroyed piecemeal.
- Llanelli is the biggest town in Carmarthenshire, about 4 times the population of Carmarthen
- Llanelli is the 5th largest town in Wales
- Llanelli has the most heavy industry in Carmarthenshire (an A&E is quite an asset)
- Our Hospital is a vital part of our Community
- The people of Llanelli have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds over the years
- What right do the management of Hywel Dda have to destroy our trust in our giving
To cite the Hywel Dda Health Board:
We are listening…
We believe the healthcare provided in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire should be a world class service that meets the needs and expectations of all local people. We would welcome your views during this period of engagement.
Your views will help inform the development of the options we put forward for formal consultation during 2012.
